Fried Pickles |
Look, I am all for eating healthy and making 'from scratch' dinners...but sometimes a girl just needs her fried snacky appetizer food. Being from Texas, there is a special place in my heart for fried pickles. Northeasterners, apparently, do not share my enthusiasm for this particular fried treat. The folks at Sonic Drive-In in Massachusetts thought I was off my rocker when I tried to order Piccolos (their version of fried pickles). They had the manager explained to me (in what I can only describe as a judgmental tone), that Piccolos are a Southern Sonic menu item. Who knew Sonic a had regional menu? Geez.
Lucky for me, my Cuisine At Home April 2012 had a recipe for my favorite fried treat. I was super excited/nervous to give these a whirl. I had all the ingredients on hand so I threw caution and healthy to the wind and whipped up a batch. HOLY MOLY they were good!!! They were so good I made them a second time for my little sister when she came to visit me this past weekend. They were as good the second time around, and my sister (who also appreciates a good fried pickle) agreed. To some of you, this may not sound appetizing....but don't knock it, until you've tried it! Those pickles were some of the best I have ever had!!

If you let them cool completely, they froze nicely. They came out perfectly when I reheated them in the oven at 300 degrees for 10 (ish) mins.

I LOVE fried pickles! While Sonic doesn't have fried pickles on their menu, I have found a couple of restaurants here in the valley that DO serve them! And I've been pleasantly surprised at how tasty they were...next time you're out this way, let me know & we will grab a beer & fried pickles! :-)
